American to fly fifty Airbus A321XLRs
- 19 June 2019 -
Another Airbus success at Le Bourget: American Airlines will acquire 50 Airbus A321XLR (Extra Long Range) aircraft. The world's biggest airline signed a purchase agreement for 20 A321XLRs and converted 30 of its existing A321neo orders to the newest A321 version.
Thanks to its long range - 4,700 nm (8,700 km) -, the A321XLR offers American the chance to fly from East Coast airports in the USA to medium size cities in Europe.
American Airlines, based in Fort Worth, Texas, is the world's largest Airbus operator with 422 Airbus aircraft in service. Including today's announcement, American has outstanding orders for a total of 115 A321neos and A321XLRs.
Other A321XLR commitments came from Qantas, Saudia, IAG (Aer Lingus and Iberia), Indigo Partners (Frontier, JetSMART and Wizz Air), Air Lease Corporation, Middle East Airlines and Cebu Pacific. (Image: Airbus)
