- 24 October 2019 -
Spirit Airlines has signed a memorandum of understanding to order 100 new Airbus A320neo Family aircraft and to take 50 options. The order is not firm yet.

The commitment comprises a mix of Airbus A319neo, A320neo, and A321neo aircraft and is intended to continue the airline's growth and to sustain one of the youngest fleets in the U.S.. Spirit's current average aircraft age is 5.6 years. Remarkable is the choice to include the A319neo in the order. Spirit will become one of a very small number of airlines to fly this type. Airbus has so far sold only three dozen of the A319neo.

Spirit already operates 138 Airbus A320-family aircraft: 31 A319, 77 A320 (including 13 A320neo) and 30 A321. Seven more are scheduled for delivery by year-end 2019, bringing the fleet of the ultra-lowcost airline to 145. In 2020 and 2021, Spirit anticipates to take delivery of 48 A320neo aircraft already on firm order.

Deliveries are planned to last through 2027. (Image: Spirit Airlines)
