United orders 50 Airbus A321XLR
- 4 December 2019 -
United Airlines has signed a firm order for 50 Airbus A321XLR aircraft, the longest range version of the A321.
The A321XLRs will replace the current Boeing 757-200s in the United fleet used on transatlantic services and are intended to expand the network with new routes from its important hubs Newark/New York and Washington D.C. to Europe.
United will take delivery of the first A321XLR in 2024 and expects to begin international service with the aircraft the following year.
The order is good news for Airbus and bad news for Boeing's considered NMA (New Midsize Aircraft). A setback for Airbus is that United Airlines defers the delivery of ordered Airbus A350s until 2027 'to better align with the carrier's operational needs'. (Image: Airbus)
