Airbus hands over first A330neo to TAP
- 26 November 2018 -
Airbus has handed over the first A330neo production aircraft to launch operator TAP Air Portugal today.
The aircraft is of the A330-900 version, the longest variant of the A330neo and successor of the A330-300. TAP has ordered a total of 21 A330neo aircraft. The airline will begin commercial service with its newest acquisition early in 2019 on its services to the Americas and Africa.
The A330neo is leased from lessor Avolon. It seats 298 passengers in a three-class lay-out, including 34 business class, 96 economy plus and 168 standard economy class seats. Airbus's so-called 'Airspace cabin' offers more personal space, larger overhead bins, advanced cabin lighting and the newest in-flight entertainment system and connectivity.
TAP is a long standing Airbus customer. Its fleet currently includes 72 Airbus aircraft: 18 A330s, four A340s and 50 A320 Family aircraft (22 A319ceo, 21 A320ceo, four A321ceo, one A320neo and two recently delivered A321neo).
The A330neo is powered by two Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines and has an optimised wing with new sharklets to improve aerodynamic characteristics. The A330neo is more fuel efficient than earlier versions and makes less noise. (Photo: Rolls-Royce)
