Boeing 777X is taking shape in Seattle

Boeing 777X production

- 11 June 2018 -
The first Boeing 777X aircraft are taking shape in the Boeing factory in Seattle. The airframer says the first front fuselage sections are under assembly at what it names the 'low-rate initial production line', but doesn't give further details.

The 777X is a family of improved versions of the 777. The 777-8 is the successor of the current 777-200ER and the 777-9 of the 777-300ER. Both version are few meters longer than their predecessors. The new aircraft will be powered by General Electric GE9X turbofans and have a composite wing, of which the tips can be folded to save space at airports.

The first flight for the 777-9 is planned for 2019 and for the 777-8 in 2020. The first 777-9 delivery should take place in 2020 to Emirates. Other 777X customers are Lufthansa, ANA, Cathay Pacific, Etihad Airways, Qatar Airways and Singapore Airlines. So far Boeing has sold over 300 aircraft, mostly 777-9s. (Photo: Boeing)
