Emirates: 30x 787-9, but less 777Xs
- 20 November 2019 -
Emirates has placed a firm order for 30 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft. The number of 777X aircraft on order by the airline, however, will be reduced from 150 to 126.
The contract was signed at the 2019 Dubai Airshow. The deal also means that Emirates will not operate the 787-10, for which it signed a tentative contract for 40 in 2017. This commitment will not result in a firm order.
After the order for 50 Airbus A350s earlier during the Dubai Airshow, there is no necessity for Emirates any more to order the 787-10. The airline considers the smaller 787-9 has the right size to complement its future fleet of 777-8, 777-9 and A350 jets.
With a current fleet of 155 airplanes, Emirates is the biggest 777 operator, and it remains the biggest customer for the 777X. (Image: Boeing)
