- 31 October 2019 -
Surinam Airways (SLM) has grounded its one and only Airbus A340 (PZ-TCR). The aircraft is parked at Amsterdam Schiphol after the airline was fed up with lots of technical trouble during the last few months.

SLM will perform its Amsterdam-Parimaribo flights with aircraft leased from other operators until a Boeing 777-200ER will be delivered at year end.

Since an A-check earlier this year, SLM suffered several technical issues with the A340's engines and was forced to carry out flights with aircraft from other sources. This resulted in long delays, reputation damage, high cost and pressure on the already difficult financial position of the airline. The aircraft is now phased out two months earlier than planned.

The Boeing 777-200ER is an interim aircraft. After about 18 months Surinam Airways will take delivery of a Boeing 787 Dreamliner for its only long-haul service. (Photo: Airliners Now)
