- 23 April 2018 -
The Airbus A350-900ULR (Ultra Long Range) performed its first flight from Toulouse Blagnac Airport on 23 April 2018. The intention is to deliver this aircraft in the second half of 2018 to Singapore Airlines.
The first flight is the starting point of a short flight test programme to certify the changes over the standard A350-900. The range of this version is increased to 9,700 nautical miles. Changes include a modified fuel system with 24,000 litres of extra fuel, without the need for additional fuel tanks. There are also aerodynamic improvements, including extended winglets. The A350ULR can fly over 20 hours non-stop and weighs up to 280 tons. Singapore Airlines intends to fly it between Singapore and the US, including the world’s longest commercial service to New York.
The A350-900ULR has a maximum take-off weight (MTOW) of 280 tonnes and can fly up to 9,700 nautical miles or over 20 hours non-stop.
Singapore Airlines has ordered a total of 67 A350s, including the seven ULR aircraft. It has so far taken delivery of 21 A350-900s.
